Six Weeks into 2019

Well, I took another hiatus. What have I been up to while not blogging?

Baking, for one. I’ve been keeping up with posting twice a month to my Instagram, so even with having a couple themed goodies made ahead of time, there still more baking and decorating to be done. And then there’s helping my sister out with her baking projects too, especially since I don’t have homework and can bake the cakes for her so she can focus on the decorating part. Besides doing things we’ve had practice with before (character-designed cookies, for instance), we’ve mixed in a couple new things, like pull-apart cupcakes decorated like Spider-Man and Thor (for a eight-year-old’s birthday party) and dual-character cakes like Emmet/Rex from The LEGO Movie 2 and Toothless/Light Fury from How to Train Your Dragon 3.

Watching stuff. Young Justice is finally back with a third season, which makes me pretty happy, since it’s my favourite show. (Though I can’t say I’m big on the introduction of more “adult” things.) I’ve re-watched a couple of WWII movies and added Unbroken: Path to Redemption to the shelf. Also got around to watching First Man, which I enjoyed (some language to watch out for though). Rewatched the only season of Tron: Uprising ’cause I got in the mood for it (c’mon, Disney, if DC Animation can bring back Young Justice for the fans, you can bring back Uprising. I want more!). And just came back from The LEGO Movie 2, my first theater experience of 2019. (It’s not as good as the first LEGO Movie, but still a fun ride.)

Reading. So far, it’s mostly been war books, but I’ll probably switch to a different genre after this one about the Iraq War. Maybe re-read The Maze Runner series so I can review it for a site I do book reviews for. Re-reading The Silmarillion is also on my to-do list, but I keep on forgetting to order it in through the library….

Floating between in-progress fanfictions. I have a terrible habit of coming up with fanfiction ideas and then getting into the mood for a different one. So I’ve been writing bits of an Ant-Man story that will not conform with anything after the Civil War film, then part of one about Vision entertaining himself after the events of Civil War, and then fiddling with a half-baked trilogy of ideas taking place in the Tron fandom.

A bit of digital media art. I’m currently working on making a teaser for a three-hour video of the unboxing of storyboard art for an abandoned Narnia cartoon film. I spent a couple weeks on digitally tracing and colouring a couple of my Young Justice/Disney Princess crossover fanart from five years ago. And I finished designing a business card for my sister! The lady who ordered the pull-apart cupcakes asked if we had business cards she could give out, so I got a move on finishing a design I’d started. And then we got 100 of ’em printed, so Mom and Dad have passed out a few themselves too. 😀

Treasurer duties. Just your typical year-end procedure stuff, but it’s all gotta happen within the first three months of the new year. And I’ve been training my replacement too.
